Jamallah Bergman was born in Jamaica Queens New York and first started to write small stories when she was around 13. It wasn't until she was around 15 when she started to write about romance after she read her first romantic novel. It wasn't until she got older when she started to write erotica as well. Jamallah writes about heroines who are full figured women since the fact that whenever she would read some of the stories she liked so much, she always wondered why there weren't many women like herself as the main character. So she started to write about heroines such as herself, full figured women who only wanted to be loved and show their love to the right man. In Ms. Bergman's spare time when she isn't writing, she enjoys cooking and collecting cookbooks as well as Colbalt Blue Glass items. She resides in Atlanta Georgia with her teenage daughter who is very artistic as well and loves draw and make little movies as well.

Title: A Special Kind of Woman Author: Jamallah Bergman Publisher: Secret Cravings Publication Date: September 28, 2012 Genre: romance Length: 128 pages ROUX READ’S OPINION: I was excited to read this book and totally prepared to love it. The concept of the “big girl”, a “plain Jane”, winning the handsome desirable guy is appealing to this reviewer. Let’s say that I can relate to this fantasy. I wanted to jump right in and find out how it happened, to revel in the process. But after reading it, I feel a bit mislead. First of all, Collin Noonan might be successful at his job, have a great family and be the man to beat at his company’s annual “pig fight” but I just don’t find him to be a prize that anyone should strive to win. He’s a handsome, red-headed Irishman who seems to think spending money and lavishing endearments on women justifies using them for one-night stands and worse. No amount of “baby”, “sweetheart” and “darlings” would make this acceptable to me. He struck me as a predator and not in any way I find sexy. Then there is Regina. I did not understand what made her a candidate for a contest that crowns the homeliest or shyest girl the winner. She was first described as extremely shy but all of Collin’s brothers obviously thought that she was pretty and lovely. She was literally shaking and unable to speak when Collin first approached her. But after that, she more than holds her own in conversations with everyone she meets. In fact she seems to charm everyone! Her co-workers like her and Collin’s family adore her. The people she meets after…well, later, all seek her enjoyable company. She is obviously a full-figured lady (it says so on the first page) but that alone should not make her a ticket to a pig party! And then we have the infamous pig party. Unfortunately this is a theme we’ve seen before (“Dog Fight”) and probably happens in real life more often than we would like to imagine. But I have big problems with this particular event. This is supposedly a yearly event involving employees at a business in a small town. Regina worked there for 8 months and didn’t have a clue. Even as time drew near and people knew she was invited to the party, no one thought to mention it to sweet, likeable Gina. And who didn’t know because unlike most contests of this nature, these guys pursued and “dated” their “entries” weeks before the big event. This is not a pleasant scenario but this one particularly stinks. Collin is an especially big stinker and never really rose above it. In my opinion, he came off as a rich, slimy, smooth-talking user of women. He sweet-talked Gina, bought her flowers, took out to lunch every day and even brought her home to meet his family. He thought he could be falling for the lovely, special Gina yet he still took her to the party/contest. When asked by another participant if he slept with her yet, Collin easily replied “Just before we got here I did, man she’s amazing and I’m not just saying in the sack”. There is no love and respect here. Gina is soon confronted with the truth in a painful way and is understandably angry and quite vocal about it. Not really so shy and quiet! But then he apologizes, she takes him back and life is good. I will say that I read this story quickly as I wanted to see what would happen next. I found many loose threads and dropped stitches in the fabric of the story but this is my evaluation. This book has a strong heroine who finds the man she wants and crafts a life that makes her happy. “Special Kind of Woman” is a book worth reading if this is the story you are looking for.
